St. Francis of Assisi:
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled, you just become a replica of someone else's mind.
Beautifully put
I don't call experiences good or bad anymore. Only revelatory, because everything changes me
in the way I needed to be changed. I'm bad at predicting desire. The body, intelligent and perceptive, recognizes a source of immeasurable craving could emerge entirely unexpected - pungent blue cheese, tres leches sponge cake, gamey wild duck, stuffed pimento olives, chocolate soft serve.
To be warped by something is to know it forever. Recursion is gorgeous. But some advice against comfort: you do things in the world and you either like it or don't, and always, you learn. This is the point of internships, subleases, backpacking adventures and sabbaticals, though true submersion requires you to choose a thing again and again.
If you take objects out of a room, one by one, two things will happen. The first is obvious. You will miss some of the things you have taken away. The second is that you will notice the things that remain more than ever. Your attention will focus. You will be more likely to read the books that are left on the shelves. You will appreciate the remaining chairs more. And if there is a chess board, you are more likely to play chess. When things are taken from us, the stuff that remains has more value. It rises not only in visibility but also intensity. What we lose in breadth we gain in depth.
Money, Work & Power
At a certain level, a lot of your most impactful work will be based on instinct.
Inspiration & Quotes × Science, Nature & The Future
Past a certain age, a man no longer speaks in terms of should or could, but instead is and will.
He ceases to live in the irrealis of the subjunctive and conditional, preferring the hard indicative and future tenses.
The hour grows late for hypotheticals and counterfactuals.
Misc
The universe rewards intensity of process but deeply punishes identification with outcome.
